GEO-ENABLED ENGINEERING: LEVERAGING GIS
DATA FOR INFRASTRUCTURE PROJECTS
The industry thought leaders in this round table would
deliberate on the challenges faced today in various infrastructure
projects in leveraging GIS data for infrastructure
projects. The requirements of a GIS solution
for project teams building infrastructure are distinct in
nature. The heterogeneous nature of data in building and
managing complex infrastructure assets is moving users
towards indexing and advanced ‘find’ concepts rather
than data aggregation. Being engineering intensive it is
required that engineering tasks be integrated into the asset
lifecycle. Work is executed by multidisciplinary teams,
which requires collaboration engines & open standards
to succeed. Also the workflow for infrastructure projects
needs replacing task-orientation in building and managing
infrastructure, to enterprise workflow to deliver cost
savings and gain competitive advantage.
