    GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION AS PUBLIC UTILITY
Geographic Information System is now being used extensively to provide solutions for public utilities. It is enabling its users to analyse layers of data that includes service area boundaries, exchanges, hotels, schools, roads, political districts, states, cities, country boundaries, railroad crossings, etc. apart from several other important information. This Plenary session aims to highlight good case studies, where GIS has made significant contribution in increasing the efficiency and management of public utility services. It also seeks to highlight the issues faced in the usage of geographic information, ranging from shortage of skilled resources, cost of implementation to a general lack of awareness.
