Geospatial E - Governance - Enabling governance through maps

With changing times, faster delivery of services on part of governments has become inevitable. Governance that embodies institutions, structures and authorities under its executive head, and planning and administration under its processes head, is viewed as pragmatic when based on geographical references. Digital mapping technologies that enable geographical analyses are making their way into governance in order to achieve desired deliverables. GIS tools are enabling policy makers and planners to deal with various welfare and developmental issues of the subject. Map-based analysis and implementation of programmes, be it pertaining to land development, taxation, social infrastructure, etc. have ensured better delivery to the end users. GIS has an extended role in cases of democracies with decentralised governance, wherein each level - central to local - has utilised GIS to deal with their respective issues.
The Governance forum aims to bring forth how has been the development of GIS within the government processes and what are the gap areas that are needed to be taken into account. The Forum targets to put forth identified GIS-enabled best practices from different regions of the world.
