INTRODUCTION
GIS Development is proud to announce GIS Development Geospatial Excellence Awards for Best Applications during Map World Forum. The aim is to promote and propagate the best applications of geospatial technologies all over the world.
The GIS Development Geospatial Excellence Awards are India's premier private awards that commemorate excellence in the field of geospatial technology applications. It has been conceived to honour the best of geospatial applications across the globe, on an international scale, to encourage the adoption and furthering of geospatial science and technologies by organisations all over the world.
The awards will be granted in the form of a trophy to meritorious projects which have made significant and measurable contributions towards the development of new geospatial applications, or innovative modification of existing geospatial technology practices to substantially reduce project costs and bring in efficiency in the workflow. The significance of the contribution, both in qualitative as well as quantitative terms, will be the major criteria for selection of winners.
OBJECTIVE
To recognize, highlight and honour the best applications or uses of geospatial technologies in various walks of life to promote these in other parts of the world and also encourage stakeholders to make optimum use of these technologies.
SCOPE AND CATEGORIES
The awards will cover the three main domains of the geospatial industry, namely, Geographic Information Systems, Imaging and Surveying. Each of these domains include specific technologies. The main objective is to select the best applications for all these technologies so that these applications can be emulated by others in different parts of the world to enjoy their documented benefits. Awards will be instituted for each of the application areas under the three main categories as outlined below.
I. Geographic Information Systems
Technology Areas: Enterprise GIS, Web-based GIS, Standard (Desktop) GIS
Application Areas: Urban Planning, E-Governance, Oil and Gas, Design, Health, Aviation, Disaster Mitigation
Rural Development, Roads and Transportation, Water, Telecom,
Land Management
Coastal Zone Management, Population Census, Power
II. Imaging
Technology Areas: Aerial Photography, Remote Sensing, LiDAR, RADAR
Application Areas: Disaster Management, Climate Change & Ecological Mapping,
Agriculture & Forestry, Archaeology, Natural Resource Exploration
III. Surveying
Technology Areas: Global Positioning System, Total Station, Laser Scanning
Application Areas: Engineering & Construction, Land Surveying, Mining, Geodesy, Marine Surveying
METHODOLOGY
1. Partners, Exhibitors, and Sponsors of Map World Forum will be invited to nominate projects from among their user community only.
2. Each Partner, Exhibitor and Sponsor will be allotted fixed number of nominations depending upon their level of partnership in Map World Forum.

3. Nominations will be screened by a Jury to select winners for each of the application areas. The names of winners will be declared by November 2008.
4. The award-winning end-user projects will be presented to the audience during the course of the conference.
AWARDS PRESENTATION
The winners will take centre stage at a glittering ceremony in Hyderabad on 12 February, 2009 where they will be awarded the GIS Development Geospatial Excellence Awards trophy. The Awards ceremony will be followed by a Gala Dinner.
